Old world charm behind the black and white timbers

The rich history of The Nags Head dates back to its first landlord in 1895. The bar selection is bang up to date, but the charm of the mock Tudor building remains exactly as it should be: dark wood, leaded windows and a proper welcome.

The bar is lined with six cosy booths, the restaurant seats 180 under its bright greenhouse-style roof, and the secure courtyard garden holds 150 more around the wood-fired pizza oven. Upstairs, ten en-suite hotel rooms make The Nags Head a true city-centre base.

Pallant House Gallery is five minutes on foot, the Cathedral about eight, and the Festival Theatre and city shopping are moments away.

The Courtyard Garden

150 seats, an outdoor TV and a wood-fired pizza oven

The extensive, secure courtyard garden is a tranquil spot for a pint or a plate from the full menu. Part of it sits under a timber-clad structure with outdoor heating and lighting, with a dedicated view of the garden TV for the big fixtures.

From May to September the outside kitchen fires up on Fridays and Saturdays: wood-fired pizza from the oven, plus burgers and steaks cooked over charcoal.

During the warmer months the garden is an ideal home for larger party bookings, with freshly cooked pizza available for groups by prior arrangement.

Getting Here

We are on St Pancras, a five minute walk from Pallant House Gallery and about eight from the Cathedral. Chichester railway station is 8 to 10 minutes on foot. A short-stay car park sits directly behind the venue, with long-stay parking a few minutes' walk away.

Wheelchair access to the restaurant is available from the rear, through the courtyard garden, straight off the public car park.
